At Kellogg, we are put into sections of ~60 students. We are assigned to “pods” within our sections of 8 students so we can foster closer relationships. My pod rocks (shoutout to the mop-ups!), and today we were eating lunch together after our final exam. One of our pod-members suggested that we take some time to each talk about our aspirations and see if anyone in the group has relevant connections.
Firstly, it was awesome to hear my friends’ aspirations. I knew things about their past, but it was really meaningful to hear about their dreams for the future.
Secondly, we were all invested in helping our new friends make the right connections. People were so enthusiastic and generous with their networks. This experience encouraged me to strengthen and maintain my own network so I can help people even more in the coming years.
But none of this would have happened if my friend hadn’t suggested we share our aspirations. So, I’m going to start asking people for their aspirations and sharing my own. And who knows what will come of it? There’s a huge potential upside and no downside.
